Thanks Gary

Good news ,

But surprising, as there was no mention of this in the CR (Canon Rumers site).

Good news for astroimagers. Took them 7 years, span over 4 generations of model to produce another one...... but better late than never.

Do anyone own the previous 20Da, can I use the camera for normal shooting beside astrophotography? Will the image be affected by the camera since it was design for Astro photography. Was intending to get a 60D dalr.

There's some discussion on Cloudynights that a stock camera, baader modified will still have higher sensitivity to HA and be cheaper than the 60Da, the main advantage of which is the Canon warranty. Just some food for thought :)
Garygoh: You will need an IR filter for regular photography or the IR component may wash out your images. I'm not sure about color balance though.

i believe you need to put a front IR blocking filter on it.

but - i also know that folks with IR-modded cameras can use them as-is, although with a custom white balance. i have an old 300D at home (that i got for a hundred bucks sing) which i modded with some ordinary glass cover to maintain focus. it works just fine as a regular camera - but i put so much dust on the sensor during my "operation" that i don't use it. waste of a hundred bucks.

it does seem like a good bet for someone who wants a 60D DSLR and an astro-camera at the same time.

but the price is $1500 USD. which in my opinion is fairly steep. do note that although it doesn't have the IR blocking filter, it is still uncooled. So a cooled camera would still blow it away on long exposures.
