How to connect a nextstar or autostar to a AT1010?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

How to connect a nextstar or autostar to a AT1010?

Post by bodoh »

I was wondering, do you think it's possible to buy a really cheap used ETX60 or ETX70 remove the scope and add the nighthawk to it for cheap goto and autotracking ability. Or a cheap used nextstar 80GT in the same way.

It isn't worth it to buy something like the vixen goto mounts since it'd cost about 2-3x what I paid for my scope.

Saw a nexstar 4 goto mount on astromart for US$150 sold. But suspect it should be quite easy to mount my scope on it and it onto my tripod. What you guys think? And do you know much it'd cost to ship it back here?

Hi,

I think you can forget about using the ETX60/70 to mount your scope... the ETX60/70 fork arm seem to be a little too short for your Nighthawk... your scope may hit the base when point at a high angle. Also, your scope may be a little too heavy to mount on the ETX60/70 base.

I think Nexstar 80GT may not have problem of hitting the base, because the fork arm is at an angle, but I don't know whether can the fork arm of Nexstar 80GT hold the weight of your scope... Nexstar 80GT OTA only weight around 1.5Kg, but your Nighthawk weight around 3kg.

Nexstar 4GT may have the same problem with ETX60/70 since the fork arm is straight... your scope may hit the base when the point at an high angle.

Have a nice day.

 Check the weasner ETX site. There is an article regarding attaching a 90mm MCT to a ETX70. 8)

I tell you la...if you want, get the Nexstar 114GT mount. Gurantee possible for your SV scope.

What you need is a Baadar bracket. This bracket clamps your scope using a dovetail or it can also mount your scope using the normal camera threads. Search around about the Baader bracket..I can't remember everything.

Yep! Saw a few with the baadar bracket. Went to Astro scientific to see see. The 80GT seems the best fit, 114GT likely to be loose. But both seem to come as part of the tri-pod. Not sure if I can reuse my tri-pod. Plus shipping the mount alone would cost less.

This solution has been used by a few singastroians like Chuan Yee, Matthew and Vincent Jr and consist of a mixture of nextstar GT mounts as well as Meade DSxx goto mounts.

Matthew/Chuan Yee: Can give some advice on your experience?
