Transit of Venus @ Bishan Park McDonald's -- 6 June 2012

Post by Gary »

Hi Friends,

A group of us will be gathering at the Bishan Park McDonald's with our solar telescopes, big binoculars, paper glasses and DLSR cameras to observe and photography the Transit of Venus.

Date: Wednesday, 6 June 2012.
Time: From 6:45 AM to 1:00 PM.
Venue: Bishan Park McDonald's --> viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10766&

This McDonald's has a comfortable sheltered outdoor sitting area with an excellent scenic and largely unobstructed view of the East. The air-conditioned indoors can provide relief from the heat and humidity during the event.

Feel free to join us there with your family and friends for a glorious and historic morning of solar-venusian observation over a cup of coffee, tea, smoothie or milo peng! :)

More details coming soon ...

I have confirmed the starting time to be 6:45 AM. I will be there by that time. The rest don't need to be there so early if you cannot make it.

In the event the venue becomes popular (perhaps due to reports in the mainstream media the day before), the bishan park carparking space may run out quickly. So if you are driving and coming early, may have a better chance. :) Or shall we setup heavy EQ mounts there and chope a few parking space? Harder to remove than plastic chairs and tissue paper. Just kidding. :P

Another reason for this early timing is so that people there may have a chance to take a quick look before they go to work or school. Sun rise is about 6:57 AM.

Added the "promo" video I shot at Bishan Park yesterday. Rush job for Venus Transit next week. May re-do a better one next time including night scenes with telescopes lined up all the way into the water. :)

In case you are wondering, the copyright watermark at the bottom right hand corner is shaky due to the stabilise video enhancement feature of YouTube on my originally shaky video. Damn cool feature! You can imagine how shaky the original video is by observing how much this watermark is dancing at the corner. :)

Yesterday afternoon carrying too much stuff in my full back pack. May use my DIY "steadicam" next time to do a fly-by video of the park.

If you listen to the lyrics, there is an interesting co-relation. "But when I reach out for you, you reach back". Isn't this the stargazing experience? And "Tonight nothing can go wrong" is what we all would like to sing when crossing the causeway. :)
