Hi,All
Thanks Gary for the upload. These photos show a M2 class flare(spaceweather reported) that happen on sunspot 1513 on 29 jun 2012.It lasted approx 25 minutes. As can be seen in the photos, the core of the flare lies just beside the sunspot.Hours later, long frequency communication was 'disturbed' as monitered in Europe.Interesting to note--a sinkang province(China) earthquake happen within 12 hours after the flare. Also note that the sunspot change shape--not immediately after the flare;but return to its normal size, then change shape afterward(within minutes).A 'black dot 'approx 2x earth size evolve afterthat.
Bonus--a photo of sunspot 1515,1514 accompanied by a 400,000 km prominences. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Mr Chia for your posting, especially on the natural disaster on Earth near/after the solar flares. May be someone should do a correlation studiessuperiorstream wrote:Hi,All

RadioJove reported flaring by SS1513 on 1 July at 1912 to 1934 hrs UTC (this morning 3 am our time). I was hoping to watch the collapse of the huge prominence and may be catch the flare yesterday

Good job. Keep your pictures coming.

Re: Unedited Solar Images from Jan 2012 onwards
Hi,Alfred
Actually idea of matching disaster/events to solar activities are not new--way back in 1980 in US people were doing that;--but the correlation is not 1:1.I certainly believe that solar activities can shake us up in certain ways and if that something is unstable;then that can trigger its energy releasing mechanism--be it the weather energy releasing system or unstable tectonic plates. Thus the higher the level of energy released by the sun,the more pronounced disturbance.
As for the photos,I am taking it on a DAILY basis--weather and my timing permitting--but submitting the interesting one like hugh prominences,x class flare, super hugh spots or spots of strange dimension.
Again thanks Gary for the help without which this is not possible.

Hi Mr Chia,
Glad to know that correlation studies are going on
I am also taking pictures whenever the weather permits it and posting some of the interesting ones. However the present setup needs me to be around to do the imaging. I will be looking into the feasibility of a remote imaging setup soon

Re: Unedited Solar Images from Jan 2012 onwards
Hi,Alfred
Good to know that I am not alone now.Perhaps due to the heat;way back in the 80's-when I started with my self constructed 40mm -- most people give up watching the sun after a few sessions.Nowadays newcomer are spoiled by choices of scopes--white light,Ha of different bandwidth,Cak of different bandwidth, camera direct with thousand oak solar filters or ND filter stacking;or perhaps make one yourself in other frequency by way of filter stacking. Also they can either use afocal or CCD to acquire the images. Thus hope more will join in.By the way sunspot 1515 suddenly turn active.Do take a look-Thanks.

Hi Mr Chia,
I also hope more will join solar obs/imaging here in Singapore
Thanks for the heads-up on 1515. I saw its potential

Re: Unedited Solar Images from Jan 2012 onwards
Hi,All
Due to my limited access to the internet--only thr my kid's computer--I will write up before Gary post the photos--In this batch of photos you will see
A)Prominences--3 photos taken on 30 july 2012 showing a prominence--at least 3 earth high--that suddenly appear and then decay within 1 hour.Note the constant change of shape and several tower structure of the prominence. Then another prominence-26 july 2012--2 photos;one zoom, one far view-- that display a HORIZONTAL ROTATING(watched for 3 hours;still rotating) structure. This one lasted for almost a day.
B)Sunspots--3 photos of sunspot 1520 at various wavelengths. The whole region;end to end is about 400,000 km and the Cak photo 's brighten region, even larger.Note the large double black spots at the core of the region.
3 photos of sunspot 1530 at various wavelength;taken on 29 july 2012 shows a very strange flare which cuts out from the centre of the core's spot.Normally flare shots out from the side of the core.
For comparison, both Cak and 450nm view were supplied--do note that the core is still 'black' in these view.
Finally Thanks Gary for the upload beforehand.

Re: Unedited Solar Images from Jan 2012 onwards
Hi Mr Chia. Sorry for the delay. You sent me the photos by replying an old email thread and it got lost in my hundreds of unread email. Haha. Found it last night while going through them.
Not sure if it is something strange with the forum software or my computer settings. Once in a while, when I click on "view new posts", some new posts did not show up. Your latest post is the latest example. Would have missed it if I didn't look at the forum index page and only rely on "view new posts" option.
Anyway, these are the photos. Great shots! Enjoy!

Re: Unedited Solar Images from Jan 2012 onwards
Hi,All
Thanks Gary for the upload and since I have access to the com again;I post again--3 photos taken on
31 july 2012.This is 1538--the sunspot spaceweather claim is flaring for the past 2 or so days.Do look at the curve shaped prominence left of it.Thats the prominence that had a Cak profile--the second in my record--- and for comparison ;a Ha photo is also taken. The third photo shows a very strange shaped prominence that has no prominent Cak profile.Wander what sort of force field can cause such a prominence.
Anyway,as predicted, the sun is getting active now--look at spaceweather pic--and you will see the sun covered with lots of spots. The Cak view with showing of bright regions is even more spectacular. However is it at its peak? No,according to previously recorded sunspot trend, there might be a dip in activities at Aug end to mid sept. The GOOD show comes after that.Enjoy!
