CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
just wanted to share my first ever Jupiter shot! Taken with a Celestron Omni XLT 127 + 5Dmark III with a 2 times Televue barlow... I can see the Moons but it doesn't appear in the picture thou haha.
not too bad for a first shot! for the moons, got to expose little longer, although you will overexpose the main disk unless u do masking. keep shootin'!
"The importance of a telescope is not how big it is, how well made it is.
It is how many people, less fortunate than you, got to look through it."

Thanks all! Just a noob question... if I were to take even closer details of say Jupiter or Saturn, what do I need to upgrade? CCD camera? longer focal distance? i.e. change my OTA? or....
Btw I still know nuts about guiding and alignment...Im always using Google Sky map to locate what I am looking at then I point and shoot... pretty lame I must say haha...
Well, was this a single shot or was it a stacked shot of multiple video frames?
I'm no expert on planetary but as I understand, the technique centers around taking "lucky shots", that is to say, in those split seconds where seeing clears up, then picture is nice and clear and the software can help you stack those frames so everything looks clearer. I believe Registax is the freeware of choice in this respect
