Please suggest an alt-az mount for C8

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Please suggest an alt-az mount for C8

Post by VeeJay »

Hi all,

I'm looking to get an alt-azimuth mount for my C8. I prefer manual, non-goto, with slow-mo controls.
Can someone suggest one for me please?

TIA,
-Sanjay

A Vixen Portamount can handle a C8 but that would be at its very limit and you may not be able to point exactly at Zenith.
Personally, I use a Tele-Optik Giro 3 which can take up to 40lbs with my VMC200L, a very similar scope to the C8. It works beautifully although it would benefit from a counterweight and it has no slo-mo controls but movements are smooth enough for high power tracking.

Hi Veejay,
If you need slow mo control, the Bintel Alt Azi mount is better than the porta 2. It is much smoother and and take slightly more weight. Its available locally from Mc Gill but cost more. Usual for Singapore. U can look up in cloudynights if you want the better deals

My C8 (black tube version with basic starbright non-xlt coating) is able to point at zenith (and backwards if need be) on my porta mount. :) I have demonstrated that in person to a few people during past stargazing sessions. :)
