Ioptron ZEQ25GT mount?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Thanks Mooey, but the SkySensor 2000 guide pot pin configuration might not be the same as the standard type, hence, might require to go through a GPUSB-AH type interface for guiding ?

GPUSB-AH is like 80 bucks. It's not a deal-breaker. The SS2K is far, far better than any Starbook. The challenge is that it is old, and if it breaks it would be challenging to repair.

I find the EM-11 way overpriced at 4,300 USD, given that it only has a 25-lb payload. Seems that the best "light" mount would be a Vixen SXD with NexSXD motor board (to get rid of the declination jumps). It is under 20 lb.

That said there are a number of issues now popping up regarding the ZEQ25GT on the CN forum. Personally this turns me off..

extremely long thread

people are reporting things like motors that stall randomly, large amounts of slack in the RA axis, loose motors, etc. etc.

I just got my ZEQ25 and wrote an "in-depth" review in my local forum:
http://darasart.com/webboard/Question.asp?GID=4268

The mechanical problem can be solved easily. It is still worth it because the ZEQ25 mount is the lightest and least expensive mount capable to do serious astrophotography.

Anat, what mechanical problem that you are refering to?

beginner,

It is called an "in-depth" review you won't find elsewhere :)

In short, it is an excellent mount :) Light and capable for astrophotography. There may be some problems (like what orly_andico mentioned) but it can be solved easily. The technical support is one of the best that I have experienced.

Please enjoy photos and videos of my disassembled mount showing how the gear switch and tension screw work. I think it is a good design which leads to the good periodic error.

Hi Anat,

Thank you for the in-depth review, you are the man, instead of complaint its weakness, you analyst it with solutions in mind.
