This is certainly a welcomed move by SIA.

See what competition does. SIA was well behind many other airlines which had already moved to 23kg or 30kg.

Although for most of my holiday trips my luggage typically weighs around 14-18 kg, it's good to have a more decent allowance of at least 23kg. Last year, when I went to the Perth region for my astro trip, I had to weigh every single item carefully and do calculations to try keeping within 20kg.

This was one of my bug-bears against SQ (apart from their website and high prices): charge us Singaporeans premium prices but had a stingy baggage allowance.

Good to see this change. Hopefully they won't increase prices for this.

I got round that by lugging most of my equipment in my backpack. My backpack weighed almost 14kg when I was coming pack from Perth earlier this month and I had no problems passing through. :mryellow:

Also, if you're traveling with someone who has PPS Club status, you get twice the baggage allowance.

Although, my luggage is always around 15-17kg when I'm coming back from trips, unless I've been shopping like crazy.
