That's really interesting except that it costs almost $1000 more than the base price! The "normal" D810 is about USD3K at retail.
Which begs the question if its a better idea to buy a "normal" camera and then spend the top up for a dedicated CCD that has cooling, which drastically improves the SNR.

excerpt from a review by a Swedish astrophotographer whom was requested by Nikon Nordic to do a camera test,
"...took several exposures on NGC7000. In total I got 50 minutes of exposure time on the nebula using 76 shots with 30 sec. exposure and 12 shots with 60 sec. exposure. All of them at ISO 800. For calibration I took 10 dark frames, 5 bias and 5 flat frames. All images were then stacked, aligned and calibrated using PixInsight. I also did some background calibration and color calibration in PixInsight. Final post processing was done in Photoshop CC 2014. This is the final result."

Thanks for the update.
How does this compare with the Pentax K3 II which is not technically a special astro camera but capable of doing serious imaging.

dun own a pentax. maybe Looya can answer bah.

would b interest to get d d810a since it's seem that d general photography is not affected too much... my d800e really cmi when shooting high iso with long exposure.
