GEM for low altitude problem

Post by juliotan »

Recently I bought a skywatcher Newtonian reflector 150mm f5 with EQ3. It was found that the counterweight will hit the tripod legs if altitude was adjusted to low altitude, example 0 - 4 degree :P . Would like to have help, opinion, advice and solution on this. [smilie=crying3.gif]

What you need is a modified half pier with a small section cut-away to allow the CW to swing around without hitting it.

You need a pier between the tripod and the mount to raise the height. Alternatively, you can find or DIY smaller counterweights. Or you can also close up the tripod legs a little bit.
