Hi All
Had been using a 60x mag zoom to shoot the sun and moon.Esp for the moon
Shooting the recent eclipse was easy........well use nd2 filter to protect overbrightness
and for the sun.....2 nd400 plus 1 nd8 tested to filter off uv and ir .Photo to follow.
Thanks.

Re: use of high zoom compact to shoot the sun/moon
Hi All
Had been working on this recently and go
to the extent of using filyers like
U360,Rm72,Rm92 and other dark filters
just to learn that some of these filters may
give good looking image to the eye but
dangerous images because the ir amd uv
portion are too strong to both the eye and the
camera. In short it take quite a lot of trial and error
to arrive at a SAFE combination. ........worse still
the same filter no may offer different character
in their uv and ir response. Thus its real hard work in trial and error to arrive at a SAFE COMBINATION.

Re: use of high zoom compact to shoot the sun/moon
Further more interference filter provide yet another challenge of giving rise to multiple
images that will interfere with the sharp focusing
of the images.
Finally I arrive at some good working combo
of filters.
Next on the x--zoom number. A x100 will
fill the whole screen but too much for the
focus lock of the camera
About x50 optical zoom.....you will need a
tripod. The max at freehand shooting is
X30 optical zoom and of course you can
double the zoom by using the smart zoom
features.
Well photo of actual results later. Thanks
and welcome suggestions for improvements.

Re: Use of high zoom compact camera to shoot the sun/moon
Thanks Alvin for the upload
With this equipment shooting the sun and moon during eclipse is easy.
Also during periods of low solar activities. ..like
now. ....just point and shoot and also one can
use this set up in overseas trip to shoot the sun.
A really simple and useful setup.

Hi Alvin
Initially I use photographer filters. ....as mentioned 2 nd400 stack with a nd8. Later
I try by trial and error various 28.5mm filter
.......the hardest part is getting a adapter
ring to connect those camera thread with
28.6 mm.There are many combination possible. ...and the fun part is to get your own combination of filter that suits your camera.Yes the clear aperture can be 28.5 mm or larger like say 49mm or 58mm etc.
