High Resolution H-Alpha Solar Image

Post by yltansg »

Hi,

It has been a while since I last posted an image of the Sun. I have made further progress on high-resolution solar imaging in H-Alpha, CAK, WL, G-Band wavelength. An example of H-Alpha imaging is shown below:

Setup - 8" 3-Band (H-Alpha, CAK and G-Band) full aperture Dielectric Energy Rejection Filter and a Celestron C8.

Looking at Sunspot AR12741 on 14 May 19:

Thanks Kochu and CheeYiun.

It took me some time to experiment and find this optical train that produces a satisfactory image with my Celestron C8 SCT. I will next work on this C11 and see if I can get higher resolution images. Cheers.

Thanks Ivan. After some tinkering, I am now able to produce this quality consistently. For high resloution imaging good seeing condition is essential. Good news is our local seeing condition is good. Next I am trying the next higher resolution with a C11 SCT.

Wow! The hi-res image from the 8” SCT is breathtaking! Couldn’t wait to see the next one on the C11.

18 Aug 19. Peering into the solar upper chromosphere in H-Alpha using a Celestron C11 SCT fitted with a full-aperture D-ERF. Despite being spotless, the Sun has many interesting 3-D wavy plasma features near its southern limbs. Seeing condition was poor. The Sun was covered with passing clouds throughout the imaging session.

Can expect better images from this setup.
