Nuts...house being painted during that period, so won't be able to join in. Have fun guys and please do take more wide angle pictures of the approach and the original site. Curious to know what it looks like now. Miss the good old days when everyone went there for clear skies...

Best wishes to the Mersing Expedition's 17 members!
Looks like the weather is clearing up. Skies are quite blue now.
Looking forward to your trip reports and photos! Also, an update of what Telok Sari is now like. Almost a year since I was last there.

haha....you will Shirox! most of us missed ya presence too! Only got to bring my room mp3 speakers....no PA system for zouk-out atmosphere.....
okok....account in proper....don't think i can write much these days, but just a quick summary of the trip:
had a total of 17 of us...quite an interesting group as almost half came all the way from Kuala Lumpur...mostly from the Starfinder Astronomical Society. It was good to make new friends, as well as getting to see the old MY friends once again (after 1.5 years!). Sky conditions was not as transparent as previous Mersing trips, but nevertheless we were still blessed with two nights of extended clarity, with dashes of passing cumulus and high stratus. Somehow the sky tone was more grey this time, and the nights were mostly warm and humid (akin to SG these nights too). Lots of mozzies, and flying insects (some ended in my nose and throat) added to the interesting night aura. At around 3am, we were treated to usual end-to-end Milky Way tapestries, and the remaining few of us endured till first light. We had a dazzling array of instruments, both visual and astrophotographic, as you can see in the following pictures. The KL group attempted beautiful time-lapse video sequencing, while our folks embarked on DSO imaging and visual treats.
On Saturday, we took drives to Mersing Town for our usual lunch treat at one of the local coffeeshop. It was great to have about five dishes shared amongst us for about RM100 in total! Had char siew and roast pork meats, bak kut teh, vegetables, and chicken. Surprisingly, 90% ordered coke too! Probably due to the scorching day temperatures. It was also nice to hold a surprise birthday party for Carole - all of us chipped in and got her a pair of Motorola walkie-talkies (thought it might be useful for her trips), and the KL group bought a cake for the celebration (complete with her name signatured on it!).
Without further ado, here's the collection of pictures of the trip (pardon the low res, from 'iphony'). Do look forward to some of the nice Milky Way composures that the rest of our guys took during the trip too. Yet to process any DSO pictures, but will hope to once all the NLB and VT2012 preps are done.
