For the last 4 years I have been working on 75 to 100 mm aperture with relatively good results. Then I stepped up to 150mm.
I discovered that it is crucial to have an ERF up front to filter off the undesired elements to obtain a steady image for larger aperture.
I have done this for both H-Alpha and WL, though I do less of WL imaging.

My next step is to move to even larger aperture. I am looking at doing both HA and WL imaging with a C14. Budget is my main
constraint Will share it if I can get the project going.

9 Mar 16 - This new sunspot brought low-intensity flares with it. It was about 5-6 the size of Earth's diameter when I caught it. It has grown alot bigger since.

Super excellent Solar images Alfred, i had just started into Solar & wish to consult you what are the brighten patches of lights on Sun surface that you had captured on 30 Apr 2016, are they Chromosphere Flare or to be classified as Solar Flare in general ? Thanks.

Hi Peter,

Welcome to the interesting world of solar imaging. The Sun is changing every moment and you wouldn't be disappointed.

I usually counter check what I see on the Sun with websites such as these to confirm if the Sun was flaring:

Generally the white patches are within the active regions. http://solar.physics.montana.edu/canfie ... A.2023.pdf

White patches can be signs of flaring. I believe some of those you saw in my images were very low level flares (below C-class flares)

Hi Alfred, with reference to your 30 Apr Collections of Solar images, while the first two of them i can figure out are Hydrogen Alpha & Calcium K images i think, the last two close up views are they taken with Hydrogen Alpha also ? Looks like requiring very large Etalon unit and tight specifications to do the job ? Are the pictures Close up view of Active region ? thanks
