Oh that's right.... agree the finderscope is crap...
(Even the right-angle replacement that Rich made may not be really suitable for star-hopping...

Just noticed your post..heh heh..well here is my take :
The original 6x21 mm straight finder was crappy. Very dim and stars from half way to the edge were elongated. Plus it almost killed my knee trying to look for objects near zenith. The right angle finder was also bad but at least its better than the original one. Its 8 x 25 which means you get a little more aperture but higher magnification. The stars are not as elongated but trying to focus till pin point will tax your patience but nonetheless, it does get the job done. I am able to use it as a finder and it has helped in locating the objects plus its more forgiving for myt knee!! :-)
