On Sunday night, David brought Mooey & I to Tuas to try searching for that comet, but due to the thin high clouds, i could not find it with the C8 & 30mm st-80 (50x, 80 deg app. field) or 9x50 finder even after a few attempts of staring at the exact field with averted vision. In fact, the telescope limiting magnitude was worse than mag 8 thru the scope, so even faint stars were not visible. Last night was very cloudy from 8-10pm, so i did not try. Maybe i will try again tonight if the weather is clear.not an easy object to find la, i scanned ard the area at tuas yesterday. did not see any extended object. i guess better skies are needed to actually see it. richard may try again later, let's wait for his good news.
From my astro software, the expected magnitude of Tempel 1 is 9.65. I usually do not bother unless the sky is absolutely clear, unless I wanted to capture the flash during the collison and I have a Hubble: http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/newsde ... s/2005/17/

Hi folks:
Keep trying... Just need a break in the cloud at the right place...
I read that the increase in brightness is estimated to be ~10 times. This is an magnitude brightening up of 2.5 [using ( m1-m2)= -2.5log10( 10)] or 9.9-2.5=+7.4 mag - not sure the size though...
Jul3 - 75mm/f.14+mintron, 11pm from my window LM 8.9 stellar
Jul4 - tried 8:30pm - clouded out
Jul5 - ??
