Pulau Semakau - possible ob site?

Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.

hmm..since jin peng brought this up to my attention. i would like to ask too. firstly how do we get there. 2ndly, the skies there, wat are the conditions. 3rdly, is it ok to set up tents there. 4thly, if we can camp there, who would be interested in sacrificing and making a trip there with me.
I am interested to go, thats why i post this question in the first place. Does anyone have contact with Nature Society etc, as it seems that we can only go there thru them.

Stars and planets are part of Nature, so it is still call Nature Observation... only difference is that they look around, while we look beyond earth... So let's bring the them to the "dark side" ... Hee Hee Hee :P :P :P

Have a nice day.

I dont think there is a ferry service to go there, and it may be quite costly for us to just charter a boat to bring us to-and-fro (unless we bring along a platoon or section of men), thats why it is better to join them on a joint trip.

Hi,
The news of the link:
http://www.wildsingapore.com/news/20050304/050407-1.htm
But I also wonder are we allow to stay overnight there???

By the way, it is quite near Pulau Sebarok... Oil multinational Exxon Mobil's oil base... wonder will it generate a lots of light pollution???? Check out the below link:
http://sg.ksdb.com/1072418.page
It show a image of pulau semakau and I think on top of the image is the Exxon Mobile's oil base... it seem quite near.

Anyway, may be we can email Nature Society ( http://www.nss.org.sg ) and ask them about the night sky there if they had stayed overnight there.

Have a nice day.

Hi,
I send an email to NEA to enquiry about visiting the landfill for astronomical activities and they reply that for safety and security reasons, they do not allowed overnight stay at Semakau Landfill for members of the public... just as I expected. :(

Have a nice day.

understandable...they would have to commit more resources for sound and security which would have increased their operating cost and strain their manpower as well...

I think they will re-consider if singastro is a registered society.

Dear everyone, why not we dun bring so sophisticated stuff, i suggest we survey the place for a night with simple scopes will do. Once the condition over there is satisfactory for night observation, then we will proceed to plan for offical night obs.
