Hardly any reviews on the SWA yet... You are using a C8 right? With its long focal ratio, you may get excellent performance from cheaper eyepieces too.wucheeyiun wrote:Frankly chee chien, i am quite intrigue by this "ball" here, i wonder how does this compared to the 1RPD ( the only wide field i ever own ?),
i am actually very tempted...in fact i was a bit slow in getting your pentax 40mm.

Review of the 28mm SWA here:

Heh heh... I got my 24mm UWA for less than the price of a new 28mm SWA.

The sky was clear and I went to my backyard to do a short bout of star-gazing. The milky way was an easy naked-eye object arching across the sky. Put the 24mm through its paces and I continue to be impressed. It was sharp in about 80% of the FOV with some coma creeping in towards the edges but not enough to be objectional. In this respect, the Meade is much better than a T4 22mm Nagler which I had since sold. The Nagler had lots of coma in the outer 1/3 of the FOV, making me feel most reaped-off by Al for the price he charges for this ep. Maybe Al did it intentionally so he could sell some Paracorrs? I am really glad that Televue now has some serious competition!
Back to the Meade. It was really comfortable to use with no kidney beans AT ALL. Eye relief was sufficient for me to take in the whole FOV with my specs on. I even had to turn up the eye-cup a little. The view was very immersive and gave a great 'being-there' effect. Never stared at M7 for so long and it was fun seeing more and more dim stars pop up as my eye, shielded from a lone street light 50m away, becomes increasingly dark-adapted. Sweeping across the dense star-fields around saggitarius (spelling?) showed little pin-cushioning. I am glad I got this ep for it made viewing some of my favourite DSOs seem like a whole new experience!
cheers

hi cc,
seems like ever since you went to the US, everything you do is BIG!
big scope, big eyepiece..etc.
the way you describe it, makes me want to buy and air ticket (tiger airways of course) go to your place and peep through them!
Never thought I hear the day where a Meade outperforms a Nagler...

Hi Deneb & Rich
Ya I like the ep very much. Great views and its so nice to cradle and hold
With a filter, the segments of the Trifid nebula look like the petals of a huge hibiscous flower in the sky.
I am splurging on eps partly because its fun trading stuff on astromart and also cos' I can get damn bored in this small town of Monterey with not much to do during the weekends. Sian!
cheers
