Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Wow, what's the weight? What would shipping cost? Or are you gonna be bringing in a low cost tripod solution soon?? =)

The tripod weighs 4 Kg.

Their phone number is 86-731-4465152 (got from their product's picture), will call them to get more info. The tripod's owner just assumes it may carry an 8 inch newtonian with eq5 mount.

I am actually thinking of making tripod head and wooden leg separately. But the cost will be definitely higher due to better material and workmanship.

wooden tripods

Post by Danny »

Hi guys, Mr Neo is a good friend of mine. I just talked to him and subject to confirmation, I can probably get the wooden tripod from him for about $270 excl GST.

If anybody interested please let me know. Maybe can get cheaper through bulk orders.

Liu Ming, if you can bring it in as shown in the pic with a centre spreader bar, it will be good.

I have seen similar wood tripods on ebay for US$60 or so.

OK, I managed to source for a wooden surveyor tripod at:

http://www.horizon.sg/Alu_Woodtripod.htm

They come in 3 heights: 165cm, 170cm and 180cm. The 170cm costs $200. The fibreglass one is $280 and is much heavier.
The heavy duty aluminium one costs $130. If we gang up to do a mass order, I think it will be cheaper.

Hi guys

Surveyor tripods usually have a 5/8 screw thread instead of the standard 3/8 or 1/4-20 screw thread for photographic tripods. You probably need some kind of a adapter plate etc.
