FS: TV85 on Gibraltar Alt-Az mount
Just did star test of TV85, inside and outside diffraction patterns are very typical for a doublet apo; Spherical error is very well corrected, which confirms TV's priority in figuring. The sleek on the edge of objective seems to have no influence on optical performance, which was also observed when I saw one tmb 80/480 fluorite objetive which has a big bubble inside.
The color correction is not on par with my tmb 115 that shows no color both inside/outside focus. However when the focus snapped, the TV85 shows very little color that you can forget about it. According to my memory, the color correction is better than Borg 76ED (need to test again some day).
It companies well with my Nagler zoom 3-6, at 200X it is still usable without loosing sharpness and color correction on high contrast objects. The rack-and-pin focuser is of first class and reliable, it carries Nagler T5/31 ep with ease and composure.
Finally, I think it is really a "sharp scope on the go", I will use it more often than my bigger scopes.

congrats Liu Ming....a very good buy!
A Zenithstar 80 Fluorite Doublet (anniversary scope) is selling for $1600 recently, so a Televue 85mm complete with wooden alt-azi tripod is really a steal at $1700....
I've seen through it before and non-technically speaking, the views are very good....not as kick-butt as the Takahashis Ive seen through but close enough...
enjoy your new toy

- Favourite scope: Mag1 Instruments 12.5" Portaball
Its $1900, not 1700. Anyway, its a great scope that has been sitting unused in my dry-box for almost 2 years. I am really glad that Liu Ming likes it; I could see the sparkle in his eyes when he first set his eyes on the scope this morning
I am feeling a bit "sayang" that I have sold the scope, but its time to nourish my wallet a little
Rich, how come the 80FD is selling for S$1600? The list price is US$798 which works out to about $1300.
cheers
