haha 88mm is a good number. Then maybe a special edition with 88mm aperture, and f/8.8 too.

Many 80mm scopes are good for the general public. Good size and affordable for people who just started out. Portability is a main factor too.

In fact, some singastro members have noted that 80FD compares favourably with TV85 in performance.
Really??  no wonder cc sold the 85 and kept the 80fd :D

SIGH... Optically I can't tell any difference lah! I just don't like the ugly old-style US design, and the ah beng in me just like the red color better. Don't understand what all this fuss about fluorite or not is about.

here's another morsel.
Seems some people who bought the "limited" edition scopes is not too happy that WO is now offering the APOGrade for existing users which uses the exact same TMB co-designed optics.
Apparently, WO has clarified that these are leftover parts from the limited edition and is making is available to people who own WO scopes rather than let them go to waste.
The limited edition red colour will no longer be available anytime in future.
Instead, they will be sticking to purple, yellow, blue and green as possible OTA colours instead. This will separate the red special edition....

sometimes when demand is good any business would be tempted to limit the "unlimited". But I do agree they should have made more differentiation with the special edition set..eg. have a star map anodised onto the OTA. Installed a built in heater and maybe integrated tube rings and NEVER offer this for future scopes. This will, they will not corner themselves of not being able to supply the same APO optics in other configurations...after all, optics is their core business.

A UK supplier is coming up with a 88mm scope soon. Watch out for it!

OK, going back to the scope we're discussing. Since Astro-Tech doesn't want to reveal the glass type, looks like their AT80ED is also using FPL-51. If that's the case, this WO ZSIIED will be a better buy. For a few hundred bucks more, WO anniversary scope or the new Stellarvue NightHawk NexGen will be a nicer scope to have, IMO.

Hope it has a focal length of 488. 88 mm APO with focal length 488 and cost 888.

Not bad.
