Yes...but the C11 is also more expensive. Portability wise, the 9.25" and the 11" CPC is about the same hassle.wucheeyiun wrote:What it means is that it is wiser to buy the c11 for size verses aperture as compared to the c9.25
CPC 800 or CPC 9.25??
I agree. If you are thinking of 8" *or* 9.25", then I say get the 8". However, if you already have an 8", then get the 11".
I am assuming that you are going to carry the scope around. If, however, you are mounting it in an observatory and doing astrophotography, then 9.25" would be my choice (vs 8").

Hi,
May be you like to check out this guy website on his CPC1100 before you decide:

By the way, if you decided to get a new Celestron SCT, get the XLT version... IMHO, it's a lot better than the normal version.
Have a nice day.

I believe the optics of the vintage orange tube C8 is still better but I've never compared the two side by side. Anyone ever compared a new C8 with XLT coating vs the legendary Orange Tube C8 with that "special" coating?By the way, if you decided to get a new Celestron SCT, get the XLT version... whichever one u get, remember to invite us to see see look look if u ever get one.Fuzzball wrote:Thanks guys for all your advise...umhh..I am now tempted to look in to the CPC 11...am i getting ahead of myself...
Anyway...once I get my CPC...8 :? ....or 9.25...or 11
I'll let you guys know.
cheers!
I have compared a C8 XLT and an orange tube C8, not side by side, but within 15 minutes interval on the same night. The C8 XLT is sharp, but the vintage C8 is slightly sharper. Regarding the coatings, the vintage C8 has slight spots and scratches while the XLT is brand new, but I can't really note any significant difference in illumination brightness. To me, the optical quality of the mirror/lens would matter more than the coating.I believe the optics of the vintage orange tube C8 is still better but I've never compared the two side by side. Fuzzball, I think one should carefully consider a few important factors first before jumping from 8" to 9.25" and then to 11". Apart from the increase in cost, you have to consider the bulk & weight & practicality of moving a CPC 11". Have you seen how wide the fork arms are? Go down to our neighbourhood astronomy shop and take a realistic look. Have you got a way to move this scope and all necessary accessories around by yourself? Can you fit that into your car boot or back seat all by yourself? Have you tried lifting the optical tube with fork arms and base onto the tripod? Not that I want to dampen your spirit, but if you are not prepared to answer 'yes' to this and some other questions, buying a CPC 11" can dampen your enthusiasm in the long run. Also remember that a smaller scope frequently used is much better than a CPC 11" home showpiece that becomes a white elephant.
