Yes, 10 days worth is a lot of time, but it's not true to say that there is no scientific value! Hubble Deep Field, Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF) and HUDF South were all used to look into the deepest past of our universe. The pictures were used to determine the types and number of galaxies in the early universe, and discovered many strange extremely red-shifted quasars and galaxies.Airconvent wrote: Don't forget that the Hubble is a VERY VERY VERY expensive and life limited equipment and many scientists, each with their own agenda, fights hard to get a slot to use it. its a feat that the photographers managed to hog the scope for 10 days to do what is scientifically of no value although the social value is tremendous...
Zong, a 100 day will technically be feasible because at that distance, there should be no discernable parallax, and of course, exposures can be taken separately and combined.
Actually, I found the music in the video quite irritating  I much prefer this video that really shows you how deep and far we're looking into the universe! : http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archiv ... 07/video/b
Download the big version if you can..
"Video: Zoom into Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys Ultra Deep Field - Version 2 The establishing shot starts with a very wide view of the sky as seen by a small ground-based telescope centered on the Fornax constellation. The image dissolves into the Digitized Sky Survey, through the Hubble GOODS South and ending on the HUDF. Constellations and fields are identified."
