Where to buy cleaning liquid for eyepieces?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

I've bought the cleaning liquid reccomended by CC, and it works like a charm. Your cleaning liquid sounds different, will try out some from you next time when we meet.

Cheers!
Actually can just use your breathe. That's the best form of distilled water. Then use cotton wools or cotton swabs.

I do not encourage people to use liquid on eyepieces because there could be a chance for the liquid to seep into the lens. If must use, make sure you use in a controllable amount, a little at a time. There are many other lenses below the top lens, and if water/liquid get into those lenses, it will be very hard to get them out (trust me, I been there done that).

1. Isopropyl Alcohol
Meng Lee wrote:oh, you can get a basic cleaning from Astrobargains. Its formula MC.
Just had a nice chat with Joo Beng last night. He says he does not have any personal experience using Orion Formula MC. He uses his own home-brew solution. He does sell this Orion Formula MC and according to someone who have used it before, he told Joo Beng it was very good.

Thinking of cleaning my maksutov corrector lens. I tried checking the local pharmacies for isopropyl alcohol solution (rubbing alcohol). Most of them are 70% pure. Is this good enough for lens cleaning? If not, where to buy solution with higher purity in Singapore? How to mix this alcohol solution with distilled water? 2 portions of water to 1 alcohol?

2. Cotton Buds

Regarding cotton buds/wools, every packaging says it is 100% cotton. Can they all be trusted? Any specific brand to use or avoid? Saw some surgical cotton balls for sale also. About $0.80 for 5 balls. Apparently must finish using it upon opening. Is this overkill for lens cleaning if there is such a thing as overkill?

3. Distilled Water

Just bought some distilled water (Life brand) from NTUC. Three 500ml bottles for $0.85. Is this good enough for cleaning purposes? Again, all distilled water brands claim they are 100% pure.

Hi,
You can get those cleaning liquid from Astro Scientific Centre. I think it's quite concentrated, so you need to clean with care especially don't contact the liquid with any rubber.

Anyway, I seldom clean my eyepiece using the cleaning liquid (unless I want it to be really clean) now as using lenspen is a lot easier.

Those Life brand distilled water are quite good... I used it to clean my primary and secondary mirror once in a year.

By the way, don't clean large optics surface when humidity is above 65% as streaking will result.

Have a nice day.
