Hey guys, good to hear that you had truly great skies at Mersing! Sounds like one of those special nights.
Glad that Mersing is still capable of such vistas. I was really beginning to think that it is past redemption. It is especially good that this happened when many people went there, esp with Remus' organised trip for the newbies, etc.
Too bad i didn't go... was recovering from jet-lag. Was in the UTC+2 zone for two weeks.
Three cheers for Mersing!

Finally rested, i post about the trip.
One word: COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!
Ok, that was a little way overboard. Or maybe it wasn't. Everything that had to be said was written up there. Thanks to richard and richard (sounds like a law firm, lol) and chee chien for showing all the nicest gems in the sky.
My only 2 regrets were that I overworked myself in the weekdays and couldn't last through the night (now that sounded obscene), so I slept one of the most compared to other overnight sessions I've been to.. also, that I was so appalled by cc's big curry pot that i gave up trying to learn to find things myself through my own mak127..
We really ought to have a real curry pot next time though, to warm us up! Halfway through the night (3-4am) the place was really really getting cold, especially with a strong cold wind blowing. I felt the cold even though I'm usually strong enough, and I wore a thick jacket. Or maybe I'm becoming weaker against cold already..

Pity you did not come. Your torch and pen is still with me. Hope its still in my glove the next time we meet! In anycase, we could have benefitted from your monster bino at all the M objects around Sagitarrius...I was thinking you could have taken up some pressure from the long queue at CC's scope but then again, he was so "high" from the views on th portaball I doubt he would have minded...

How about you add your 2 cents worth. Would be good to hear it from the scope owner's point of view!

Thanks to FL and Rich 1 (and others) for the wonderful reports. I am amazed that as a Mersing 'debutante', FL has observed and remembered so many DSOs! I don't know who started the notion that bringing newbies to Mersing brings good luck for clear skies, but somehow it does seem to work!
This was a most unforgettable trip, which started off with torrential monsoon rainstorm and full cloud cover in the evening which would make anyone think that it seems almost doomed as one of those fruitless cloudy night, then suddenly the night sky miraculously cleared up at around 11pm and it was so clear the rest of the night that the whole Milky Way was visible stretching from one end of the horizon up to the zenith and down to the other end of the horizon. To me, that's the best DSO!
Yes, a word of thanks to our driver Rich1 who made this trip possible for me. Next time if you still feel frustrated with your Nexstar 8, you can bring along the 11 incher with Sky Commander instead; I will let you use it the whole night if you like.
