Opinions? Premium 8" vs Consumer 8" F6 vs SCT

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Hi,
Btw, you mention '...switch over....' do you already have a premium 8" dob?
He mean from SCT switch to 8" consumer dob. :)

Basically, the main advantage of an 8" SCT over most 8" dob is portability and can easily and cheaply (compare to dob) put on tracking for visual and imaging. So you don't have transportation issue and use for visual only, a dob is an excellent choice.

Have a nice day.

Kay Heem perhaps you can consider a celestron dob from astrobargains. I had a 10" orion dob before and despite being small-built, had no trouble getting it into and out of the house or loading it into my car. I loved it for its portability, optics, ruggedness and simplicity :)

Thanks for the comments, guys. It was what I was hoping for.

Basically, a mass consumer dob is about the cost of a used 8" SCT. If the views are significantly better, then it would be worth it to switch to a consumer 8" dob.

The premium 8" dob is way out of my league. Besides, the cost is easily >3X that of a consumer dob but for only 10% improvement.
I can live with the 10% handicap. :-)

A new SCT is about US $750. Getting a 10" Dob, about US $799 is more worth than getting a 8" Dob. Just my opinion. :)

Heh Kayheem I suggest a 10-incher instead... still very portable and a VERY noticeable jump from an 8" SCT :)

Hmmm, so does the question now become, what is the comparison between a 8" premium Dob and a 10" consumer Dob?

Hehe.

Wah very very close for planetary (my guess). 10-incher will win out for DSO I am sure. Buy the 10" consumer dob lor :)

ha..ha..ha..as a matter of fact, I am considering another go at building a 10" dob with consumer grade mirrors.

I suppose the difference between that and a premium 8" dob is even smaller.

Hmmm.... I hope my wife is not reading all these!

I thought the central obstruction of big newtonian is bigger than the same size SCT?
