Hi folks,
Thanks for your offers and suggestions. David Lian offered the Manfrotto tripod but someone confirmed taking it before I did. So now I'm considering Christopher's Vixen Porta Mount. Will see other options if this mount doesn't suit my friend's need.

Why dun want GOTO mount?

Why dun want GOTO mount?

The Nexstar fork mounts are not easy to use manually, and he wants a real grab-and-go setup.

i think what Jiahao meant was his friend would like to have a mount that could be used manually, with slo-mo controls et al.

Glad to help. Do enjoy the wonders of the sky. I am pretty sure NTU has some very good (compared to other parts of Singapore!) observing sites.
