If I have a big house, I don't mind having his scope as a decorative piece.

It's quite unique actually.

But price pretty ex.

Ok..let's go back to the Megrez 88

When I bought the M88 FD, the aluminum case have not came out. Also, I prefer to have a less 'loud' aluminum case so that customs will not stop me for their 'bonus'. The black colour Vanguard case just looks like any ordinary travelling hard case and it is more durable plus watertight, airtight..and I also can claim for the cost of the case from my company as I travel overseas quite a lot. :P

Hi,

I did not have to collimate the scope as it is factory collimated. Refractors tend not to need collimation.

I am using the Microstar Deluxe mount and a aluminum surveyor tripod with this scope. Such a setting allows me to go to 200x magnification..but I would think that is the limit as more magnification will be too hard to focus due to the vibration.

There are people in the forum using the Vixen Portamount and that may be a better choice as it has slow motion knobs - making it easier to follow the stars . However, I do not know if the Vixen Portamount is more stable than Microstar.
