Hi,dx
Tonight, comet lulin should be very near the star Regulus in Leo.Spot(use your naked eye) saturn then look westward for a bright star-thats Regulus. To be more accurate, draw a virtual line joining spica and saturn, then extend it westward-the first bright star it hit is Regulus.,but bear in mind;dont "draw" that line with a telescope,or else you will be lost in a sea of stars! The pass 3 nights present HOPELESS viewing condition.I stay up till 3am before I give up!Hope that tonight will be better. Thanks
want to see comet lulin-new observer
Hi Super thanks for the info.......but it is too technical for me. I can't recognize the stars so u see i only ask for what time the saturn & the comet come out, and which direction should i look at, east, north east or so and the angle, so I look straight up 90 degree from horizon or 45 degree.........i will just try the luck. Many thanks.superiorstream wrote:Hi,dx

Hi,dx
To make it simple, about 11.30pm tonight,if the cloud permit(pray that there is no cloud)look straight up,vertically-you will see a bright star-thats Regulus; look slightly south of it-I really mean slightly or just beside it, if you are luckly you will see a hazy GREEN patch-thats lulin. You know something, our sky is really hopeless, the useful part lies in a cone 45 degree to the vertical and so knowing when it rises is useless. To be frank yesterday night I observe it between 10:10;and 11:20pm.Its really dim and I have to use a 120mm refractor plus averted vision to see it.,but one thing lovely about this comet is that it move really fast-so if you photo it in 10.10 ;then photo it again in 11.20 say,and if it had moved you can be sure it lulin.Happy observing!
