I probably won't bother guiding the Vixen, and guide the Showa. I'm not sure the goto system it uses, but I think it is ASCOM, so we might just be able to use a program like guidedog.
As for the Vixen, I guess I could just try contacting Vixen. I wonder if warranty covers mold...5 years is not up yet.
And isn't the Vixen more of a MCT than a SCT?
Where to repair telescopes and clean their mirrors
I will see you the june trip. I have been assigned to give 1 to 2 astrophotography talks there.
Last time I have made the ST4 autoguider port for the showa mount, you can guide direct without any ASCOM.
Hehe if the vmc is my own scope, I would certainly open it up and wash. Probably only worrying about the rotational alignment of the corrector lens with the secondary mirror.
ST6 uses parallel port and the incredibly slow download time and thw weight of a DSLR, probably does not make a good guider.

Yeah I noticed the serial port which is probably a good indication of it being obsolete. Indeed, it is not produced anymore.
We all don't have the guts to open up a vmc...no one here can afford to pay 2k if anything goes wrong O.O
During June hols (before Desaru) I will probably be trying some astrophotography in the observatory with one or two others. That will have to wait for permission to enter the hostel though. Slightly annoying. I think at Desaru we will try to do short exposures on bright objects and make do w/o guider. Maybe RAW would help a bit since it is HDR but I'm not placing any bets...
Also do you have any recommendations for a CCD? (within our budget, they are either too lousy or too good...at least the preliminary research tells me that) Or would a DSLR work better? (We won't be modding it, unless there is a "modding service" cuz again no one would have enough guts.)

1) Try RAW + Large jpg in order to see the "processed" pic immediately.
2) Simple cameras (yet good cameras) are :
a) Orion Starshoot 2 mono
b) Meade DSI 3 pro mono
