Further more the instruction book does not show the list of alignment stars or the DSO thus veri troublesome. Worst, the autostar got no number key thus must keep pressing the scroll key. It is also ridiculous as it contain quasars in the 1400 objects, bearing in mind a small 60mm refractor cannot see a 16 mag object   :x
very odd...a set of alkalines should be able to last 20-30 hrs!
assuming you observe about 2-3 hrs each time once a week, that would last you months.
if you have more needs, can always buy one of those gel batteries from sls basement. they are rechargeable and last much longer than alkalines.

hiya, sorry to bug in this forum, Yes, the ETX is a great enegry consumer, no doubt, use rechargled batt instead, they are better, the autostar comes is the orgainal type. The one with numbers is the older model i guess,

The tripod i use is a video cam tripod, i have a bigger and heavy duty type. Get a video tripod...$80~100 should do pretty well, make sure it feels right and strong.

Cheers

Hmmm......, I read that some eyepiece designs are not suitable for 'fast' scopes like ETX which is f5.8. Wat eyepieces is suitable then?

Hi,
I think any plossl eyepiece is good enough for your scope, because your scope is only 60mm... so try not to use any eyepiece that have more than 4 elements.

Have a nice day.

Hi Valmeeki,

It is good to hear u also own a ETX. Have ur scope gone through 'first light', I mean first time observation? I do not have time to test my ETX as I am in camp. Hope to observe with u one day.
