Observing Jupiter on Mak 5"

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

I was up at 3:00 a.m. and tried Jupiter in the W-O 70mm. At 210X which is the highest mag I can get, it had quite a large flare around it, probably a combination of haze plus diffraction due to the bars on the window. It was still quite small, I could only see the largest northern band.

At 72X it was much smaller (and much sharper).

Based on this, I'd say to get those jaw-dropping images of Jupiter you'd need around 300X to 500X, plus good seeing conditions.

totally agree. even at 250x, jupiter still seems really small. but details still see-able

Thanks all for the feedback. My telescope is almost complete. Can try out most of the suggestions given here. :)
