Orion Nebula in HA

Tim: Yup, it would probably be more exciting to grab the other NB components (Sulphur II and Oxygen III) if opportunity allows. I have done LRGB before but with another refractor. Might not be a bad idea to merge those older data with this new HA stuff however.

Guess you could try. Layering in PS often throws up interesting colors! Thats the great thing about AP....group different subs, calibrate and align each group, then merge them in PS.

Do you take darks for each channel? Some Astrophotogs I've read about, take flats and darks for each channel. Basically ending up with a quality stacked channel before layering in PS. Then again...time is of the essence for us...miss one week of shooting and the DSO is gone from balcony view! haha!

The current darks library consists of different groups categorized according to exposure duration and temperature - for example, i have a group of 600seconds darks at 0 deg, and another group of 600seconds darks at -10deg, and so on.... these can be used for any colour channel where colour here means R, G, B, L, or even Ha, SII, OIII. Only flats are taken during each imaging session, which is relatively short (order of few seconds) and not that time consuming. Darks are taken during cloudy days.

But with objects like M42 from my view, taking it involves really a fleeting moment, where time is really an essence!

Fleeting moment I agree. Same with my balcony. I already missed the Pleides and Andromedia. Left with Orion and Rosette before midnight. Then it's a wait till Southern Cross and much later Scorpio. But fooling around with the Open Clusters at the moment...since I have a new mount on the pier and dual mounted scopes....all a relearning process again.

Nice Dark Library. Doing one up as well both with various exposure lengths and temps so more time is spent shooting which is very helpful when all you have could be 15mins of clearness! Every second counts!!

Would like to see the results of the merge of data on your M42 if your up to it! But there's always something wonderful about a blk and white image!
