It's a clash of the Titans with 2 brands!...haha! You get a great mount with a great Goto system...but letdown by the lack of ST4 port which they decided to not continue work on...sheesh!
Besides, lots put different motors on...so far I see the Synscan system the most convenient as lots of software especially ASCOM works well with it.
Orly did a Synscan on a GP. It's a all to do with some tinkering.

actually Tim it was a Meade Autostar on a GP..
the problem was that I didn't use LXD75 motors but rather motors off a poor old Meade DS. so mechanically there were many problems.
one can build a robust GoTo using Meade parts if you get the LXD75 motors. but nobody will sell you just the motors, they have to be ordered from Meade and they are $140 USD each (still not bad compared to the "made of solid gold" $200+ each Vixen MT-1 which are only steppers and not servos like the Meades).

Thanks for the clarification Orly. Now I remember,...yeah you used the Meade system. Recall that from your blog!
But thankfully, like your DIY, astronomy equipment though hard to come by here in SG, with some forethought and handywork, alot can be used to replace what we can't get our hands on!
If someone can make a Dobsonian outta a BBQ dish, I don't see why we can't do the same...well probably have to spend on the mirror and glass, but everything else is possible for DIY.
But yeah, buy one brand and put it on another..haha! I'm about to put a WO 2speed Crayford (had a bent vernier drive, but almost fixed) on a MEade 90 Acro! Pimp'in!! Change the plastic dew shield to something better and probably leather skin tube clothing...dum dum dum!
