Arrgh. Guess that option's out the window.....
Ok, how about this - I buy a 12V 10RPM motor, connect 2x 6V batteries (series) so that it runs at 10RPM. Then I use a 2nd gear that is 10x the diameter of the gear attached to the motor to reduce the speed to 1RPM.
Would that be more accurate? Or still not getting it?

Re: My Barn Door Tracker
it's not the gear diameter, but rather the number of teeth. There's this shop in the basement of Sim Lim Tower that sells DC motor gearhead with slow speeds. Not sure if they have a 10 RPM one but they do have a 30 RPM one. They also sell various gears and stuff, so you could start counting teeth...
also Tamiya sells many gearboxes with fixed ratios. You could check that out.

Re: My Barn Door Tracker
Here's a (rather pricey) 1.5 RPM gear motor.

Since it's 1.5 RPM you'd need to move the bolt some distance further from the hinge.

Looks like a trip to SLS is... inevitable.... hopefully they can also give me tips on how I should go about this
