Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.
Thanks Yvonne/Astrobabe for organizing this event and thanks Colin/Oxygen & Clifford for the ride.. Seafood was yummy, the place was lovely (almost had it exclusively for ourselves except when the security checked on us the last few minutes) but weather was not so good hence only able to view 2 or 3 stars. What's that double star again?
Think it was dark enough but too bad the clouds hid the stars. We were lucky to have a brief window period where the clouds "mercifully" moved away to reveal 2 clusters of stars.
It probably isn't ideal to watch stars during the rainy season.
Must remember to bring my star map next time. And a torchlight too.
Yes, a big thanks to Yvonne (astrobabe) for organising this wonderful event. The seafood dinner was delicious and fresh, and cheap too, at only $22 ringgit per person. It was quite expected that the bad weather spell will extend over this weekend. We only saw the double star Albireo, the Double-Double (was not resolved to four stars) and the Summer Triangle stars (Vega, Altair & Deneb). We tried to observe the Wild Duck Cluster, the Ring Nebula and the Coathanger but the clouds foiled our attempt (and my binoviewer has yet to see first light!). I am sure those of us who went there are hoping that she will organise another one soon.
Thanks too for our three drivers: Ian, Collin (oxygen) and Clifford!
Looks like you all had a great time. I only hope the group photo was not taken at the site 'cos that street light looks bright!
And I only recognised some faces meaning the rest are "new" Singastroians? Do write a report on how the night went. I am particularly inteested in how it compares to Mersing, how convenient is it to go there and is it as remote?
