Hi,
wah....most of you are talking about 2" dielectric diagonal and huge central obstruction but I am taking this as a beginner scope which gives best bang for buck, its faults notwithstanding. Most important is not if it performs very well but that it is decent enough for a beginner to get acquainted with what's available in the night sky.
I'm not talking about 2" dielectric diagonal or all those expensive accessory, but just advice him to get a more versatile scope... one that can last him a few years. I think this scope might not be that versatile under Singapore sky compare to a 5" MCT/SCT or a 4" refractor.
Well, you can also go for the A80SS ota instead, which is shorter and more compact
This is a very portable scope and although I haven't really test the high magnification performance on Lunar and Planetary viewing, but from a few short viewing on the Moon (can't believe that the scope hadn't get a good view of the sky since I brought it... thanks to the weather.. :( ), I think it'll not perfrom well at high magnification (>150x) and I will not recommend it as a first scope.

Anyway, the cloudy night got a thread on it: http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/ ... ll/fpart/1

Have a nice day.

Hi WeiXing,

You are not recommending the A80SS or the VMC110L :? I (newbie) was thinking about the VMC110L bcos it looks like a good deal.

Have a nice day too.

I used to have the A80SS. I really like its portability and mechanics. It is a fun scope for wide-field viewing. I remember the moment viewing Saturn and M44 (maybe) in the same FOV in January. Now, its optics has gone but I still keep the body to use with another lens.

but look at the mount... it is a GEM.

You still can take some astro images with non tracking mount, a tracking mount enable you to do more.
Hi
The GEM mount is only for reference purposes only. The package comes with the alt-azi Vixen Porta mount...
I know, I am trying to say it will be fun to take pic with porta mount. If you want to do more, should get a tracking mount like GEM.
