Hi, sorry to bring up an old thread. If I were to get one of these SLA batteries, how do I connect that to my scope? I've googled the batteries and they are just boxes with no ports, etc? Thanks.

They are available for less than $40 at various shops in Sim Lim tower. (You will also have to purchase a trickle-charger to charge the batteries). Just use crocodile clips to connect onto the battery's terminals. Note that the plug into the scope is centre-positive.

Hi acc, thanks! Sorry to ask more questions, but the scope has one of those normal plugs... so the crocodile clips go to the batteries, but the end of the clips have a normal plug to go into the scope?

No prob. Yup the clips go to the battery, but u will have to separately purchase a suitable plug for ur scope.

Thanks acc! So the crocodile clips go to the battery, and then there must be another connector between the clips and the scope? ok got it, thanks!

Ok, after some searching, I have a picture which I think answers my questions... but would appreciate confirmation :)

So I get the SLA battery, which is the box, and has red and black connector points.

Then I need to buy a cigarette lighter plug to connect to the red and black connectors. This plug has a hole to accept adapters... ok not sure if the term is correct, but the picture shows this as a "receiver", for want of a better word.

I have a cigarette plug adapter for my scope, which then plugs into the abovementioned cigarette lighter receiver. Then that's it?

What does "plug into the scope is centre-positive" mean, however? Thanks!

Scopes normally use those common power jacks so its easy to get. Just check what is the size on your scope...small, medium or large.
I think you may be able to buy them ready made with the croco clips if you ask around Sim Lim Tower.
if you DIY, make sure you know which is the +ve and -ve points so you don't solder the plug wrongly.
If you hate heavy setups, a 4AH battery will do but pricewise they are more expensive than the 7AH ones! [smilie=cool.gif]

I was looking for the same after getting a 4SE and ended up getting a 10pc AA battery holder and wiring in an in line fuse (3Amp); an on off switch and the correct plug.
A shop in SimLim TOWER has plenty of AA NiHydride cells at around $4/5 dollars for 2300/2700mAhr while one on 2nd floor of SimLim Square has 2500mAhr for about $3.80 each. Total costs about $45 with some wires and soldering needed.
One rechargeable NiHi cell=1.2V , so 10pcs is reqd for 12V.
The Lead Acid cells is heavier and needs separate charger for these sealed battery.
Ready made ones with switch & connector is also available in SL Twr for about $28 (2800mAhr) and $68 (6800mAHr) in corner basement shop. These are very compact and light. The shop can replace the connector to the one required.

Cheer!
