Lumenera 2nd light: Ring Nebula

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Yes, with the higher uncompressed frames, LRGB can be taken faster. I need to practise more on the part where refocusing is needed when changing from clear to colour filters. Must be able to refocus in 10s. Hehe.

In Registax, there is an option to create synthetic L from RGB. There is a slight improvement. (in the Toucam experience, that is.)

Oh, we have a 80GB portable hard disk, so we can make more space on our laptops, hehe.

at 12bit, stacked images can withstand more image processing and wavelet sharpening, maybe that can justify the cost a bit.

But first, we need to pray the clouds to go away! :)

not parfocal? oops.... yeah. think ultimately, seeing matters as well. if the seeing is no good, imaging even in 16-bit will not extract out the subtle details.

hehe, cheap Astronomik LRGB filters are only almost parfocal. Then due to different response characteristics of the sensor over the RGB wavelengths, the brightness of the planet at different filters also differ. So that's why to do everything in 2mins is tough for me.

hmmm, maybe custom made LRGB filters? ..... Oh man.

Ya, seeing is KING.

cannot be....then how do the planetary imagers effectively tackle Jovian imaging with RGB filters when they are using similar cameras and filters? hmm..the focus point is markedly different for each channel? planetary imaging is done usually in high effective focal ratios right?

The focus point is only very slightly different between the RGB and quite different for L. I am not sure, maybe they use 2x2 binning for RGB and less frames for RGB since they have the L channel for resolution.

For pure RGB, since the focus is only very slightly different, and to compensate for different sensor response to the different wavelengths, maybe they combine RGB channels with different weights.

I guessed all the above points. Wait till I ask Daimian Peach first, hehe.

Meng lee, if you want to get more from your current notebook without upgrading the hardware, bring up the "Task Manager", right click on your imaging appication and select "Go To Process". The software process will be highligted, right click and "Set Priority" to "realtime".

You might want to try Borg helica focuser since it has marking on it, once you get all the focusing point, changing them should be easier than dual speed focuser.
