Clear skies, great company, varied array of telescopes, newbies to veterans, passers-by engagement, nice beancurd, ... these elements were hopeful ingredients to a successful and fruitful (as Clifford as put it) stargazing session, and it happened yesterday - what rarity! The session started extra early, before the sun set, with a few of us setting up in preparation for a good night ahead. The skies were clear since 5pm, and it stayed clear throughout till about 11pm, when incoming clouds made several peeks but still the night remained relatively clear beyond when we had supper in nearby Geylang, to the taste of delectable beancurd. From 830pm onwards, people started streaming in. Passer-bys were plentiful as well, even my neighbors turned up. we had quite a few newbies from singastro coming, some from as far as Sembawang (kensou). There was a variety of telescopes present, which was a boon for everyone. Just about every telescope design was there, from the newtonian, refractor, Schimdt-Cassegrain, Dall-kirkham, etc... viewers could see the same celestial objects through these telescopes and compare views. It was also an opportune moment for potential buyers of owners' telescopes to see for themselves their desired instruments in action. We topped it off with Kelvin getting everyone together for group photo-taking, basking in the backdrop of the rising Moon. Many thanks to everyone for turning up, and the various elements orchestrating together in concert, making the event one unique success, and especially a great start to the new year of the Rabbit with good clear skies!
Special thanks to shirox (Elton) for bringing in the drinks!
Some of the folks that came:
Kensou (is that your real name?), Elton Ng (shirox), Kelvin (catalysm), Clifford (Clifford60), Zongyao (zong), Sunny, Szeley (lerlind) and her friend (so sorry didn't get your name), Guangwei (guangwei), Junming, Roland (roma_my), Michael Mathews (MikeMathews), Yvonne, Gary (gary), etc...
Updates on the Eunos site:
The estate will be fenced up within the next 6 months in lieu of privatization efforts. However the field will still be available, albeit an external property. Those coming by their vehicles may have to park inside the estate, passing through security.
