Lunar-Planetary hide and seek. :)

At about 30min past midnite tonite (0030hr 21 Oct), one galilean moon appears (Io) while the other about to hide behind (Ganymede) Jupiter:

Jupiter GRS transit at about 1.06am later. See if you can observe/image the smaller Oval BA near it as recently captured by Anthony Wesley --> http://www.acquerra.com.au/astro/galler ... /large.jpg

Check out this webpage for more info about Jupiter's Oval BA or more informally as Red Spot Junior. http://www.redspotjr.com/

Rare chance in SG to see BOTH Jupiter's Great Red Spot (and Red Spot Jr) and its moon's (Io) shadow on it! Tmr early morning 2am-4am, 27 Oct 2012

Screen capture from Starry Night of Jupiter at about 2:37am tmr morning:

Io's shadow transit may even be directly inside GRS at around 3:46am. One more reason for APers to stay up late. :)

Double shadow transits on Jupiter tmr early morn (Fri 4 Jan) visible in Singapore.

Io's = 2:29am - 4:40am.
Ganymede's = 2:49am - 4:50am.
Jupiter sets at 4:35am.

Jupiter will be low in the West by then. But interesting to see these 2 shadow transits "dancing" side by side on Jupiter. This may be some record for longest duration of double shadow transit? The previous one only lasted 4 -5 mins.
