Hi,Clifford60
If you want to read more,go to spaceweather.com today and you see them reporting that sunspot 1476 cracking with m-class flare. The word m-class is highlighted blue>>click into it and you will see all the explanation of the various type of flare classification.
On the other hand I am perplexed that NO x-class flare reported--only m class. What did I photographed? Will submit photo to continue discussion.Thanks.

Hi,All interested in the Sun
The last 3 photos were taken of sunspot 1476 using a 0.9-A bandwidth Ha f/5 102mm scope. It showed a BRIGHT flare that lasted only 4 minutes;but normally flare dont show up on such a wide bandwidth except strong ones.If its not an x-class it should belong to the upper class of m like m9 or so.
Shortly afterward, sunspot 1471 flare also;but now can be seen using a 0.7A bandwidth scope--that should belong to c to lower m class flare.
The other photos are photo of the same region when not flaring for comparison purposes.Do note that the photo in Cak give you the extend of the active regions associated with the sunspot.
Finally,do note that flare are usually SHORT lived and its really luck if you can see one! esp. x class. Also note in the last 3 photos that there was a short lived slanted prominence thats formed just before and during the flare. Thanks for reading and looking forward to a more active sun.

Re: Unedited Solar Images from Jan 2012 onwards
Hi Chia,
Thanks for the updates. AR1476 is interesting to observe. It is one of the largest sunspots and you are right that it had potential for X-class flare, though small likelihood. I would love to image it but I couldn't get home early this week
Keep your updates coming.
Alfred

Hi Chia,
Sunspot 1476 taken at 2 pm this afternoon. It has a 20% chance of emitting X-class flare. As it is facing Earth, it has attracted quite a lot of attention.

Hi,Alfred
Impressive and yes,1476 is very active and close up view give us an impression that its something 'boiling violently' in the sun. Will be posting my
photo later.
Hi,Mariner
My pic from coronado's instrument;as for Alfred;he is more advanced--a double stack SM 90 costing like s$10,000 or more!
