Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.

Rich, how about bringing your etx?

Anyone has a powertank that can run a laptop?

Cheers,
Chris
hi chris,
are you referring to me or richII ? :-)
i don't own any etx currently as they have all been sold to finance my N8...
I do have a C5 though.

Mooey : will be bringing the C5 as its easier to manage. should give alot more performance as compared with my etx90 in the previous marswatch.

Weixing, I think a barlow might work on your eyepiece?

Hi,
It'll work on long focal length scope, but not on my 6" F5 Newtonian... the magnification is still to low.

Have a nice day.

Was Mars in 2003 ever as big as the moon? Don't remember ever seeing it though if it did heh
No, and this will never ever happen. The moon's mean angular diameter as seen frm earth is 0.5182 deg or 1865.52 arcseconds. The angular diameter of Mars (seen frm earth) at closest approach to Earth is 17.88 arcseconds.

This means that even at its maximum possible size, Mars only has the angular size of a penny seen at a distance of 500 feet. Also, this implication means that the moon is, on average, 104.33 times as wide as the widest possible mars, seen frm earth

Hi all,
Wow, really thankful for all your responses! Mr Au is also willing to chip it to help. No doubt Mars (20arc-seconds) will not be as big as the 2003 opposition (25), let's make this a memorable experience for astronomy enthusiats both novice and the avid individuals, etc. And let's clear up the misconception about the Oct 27 date.....IT IS INCORRECT. The opposition is held during the weekend of 29-30 which is perfect for holding a public session as well. As the time is drawing near, let's schedule a meeting next weekend Saturday 27th August 2005. I will confirm the time shortly. The objectives of the meeting is to decide on the following:

1) Location of Mars Watch 2005
2) Resource allocation (optical equipment)
3) Live screening via Toucam or any other webcam for public mass viewing LIVE
4) Volunteer management
5) Any other matters

Thanks again for everyone's support!
Are we going to replicate the intensity of Mars Watch 2003 (over 30 scopes!), you decide!

Best Regards,
Remus
