orion photo

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

sure Jeremy. let me know if you are coming to my neck of the wood - but borneo is a big place... and i'm not in sabah. if mulu caves is in your itinerary, i'm near by. if you are travelling alone, i may even have a room for you to spend a night, if that's what you want.

Hee hee .. I've got friends in Miri too, and now that you say so, I'm recalling the dark skies you have there!! :) and the miraculous thing is, there were no mosquitoes when I went there a few years back .. :) (cos of the bats?)

THanks for your kind offer. We'll see how it works out. :)

another take of orion

EOS350D (unmod), IDAS LPS filter, EF 50mm f/1.8, single 132sec, f/2.8, ISO400, processed in Iris & PS CS2. unguided on LXD-75 (sorry, should read lxd55)

i'm surprised by the obvious nebulocity around Alnitak in this single exposure...

Hi King Kong
Are you referring to the star next to the Horsehead?
Yes, I can just make out the flame nebula....good image!
While unguided, I suppose the scope is tracking normally in equatorial mode?
cheers

aye captain airconvent. the lxd55 is on a permanent pier in my backyard observatory and drift aligned. no pec. due to my poor iris skill. apparently i'm getting better result from a single exposure here than the previous stacked version...
perhaps the orion will look more "natural standing up than lying down... let me try that... 8-)

Kong:

Nice shot. You would get Barnard's Loop if you increase exposure time and/or ,of course, have the IR filter removed :)

hi Anat. thanks. very tempting. but my imaging dslr is also used for daytime photography. i can't afford two dslr's :(
i'll have to squeeze the capability of my current gears to the limit before i buy more stuffs again. otherwise my kids will have to beg on the street very soon...
but yes, i'll try the bernard loop, flamey and rosette when the sky is clear again... all will benefit from no IR-cut! sniff...
