chia was just telling me that a 6" F5 celestron achro makes a great DSO star sweeper... but it is not available anymore.

but now istar has their own. might be on my list...

of course i'd like a 6" APO. but that's way beyond my reach, so an achro would have to do...
Hi Everyone.....

Istar-optical is going to announce their new types of 6" F/5 R30 and R50 super achromatic refractors.

The R30 means less 30% CA than the " normal achromatic refractor "
So R50 means 50% lesser.........

They should be announcing the R30 prcing very soon, and is around US$775........ (should be OTA)

And the R50 needs to wait till mis of this year.......,

Anyone who is interested to know more about ISTAR products can log into their web site at ISTAR-OPTICAL.com

Hi,James
Any 8 ins f/5(40 ins still can) or even 10 ins f/5(50 ins quite a giant already) that is within 10kg(ota with tube rings)? As you can see,the wt is the killing factor in many astronomical instrument and to be an efficient observer, its best that one can set up and handle ALL the instrument ALONE.Especially in Singapore, good clear sky often occur suddenly in the middle of the night/day(for solar observer) and hence the essential condition of setting up all alone--i.e.light,portable,handleable,simple setup.;and thats why I always go for short-tube scopes.

Hi All.

This is another update I received from Istar with regards to their 6" F/5....

Lenses for Phoenix WFT 150-5 R30 lens set only will be in USD950 dollar range.

The R50 version will be by middle of 2011.

Perhaps the celestron C6R short tube is much more affortable, as compared to Istar , although they also can build the basic 6" F/5 one....

Regards

James
