Wanna make a scope? Or better still, grind a mirror yourself. Or, you have some good tips in making a really useful accessory? This is the place to show what your hands can do...
2. View through the slot from the far wall at telescope height to give an idea of where the horizon is in relation to a horizontal scope.
3. View through the slot from directly above the pier, where the telescope will be mounted. No need for the slot opening to be any lower as all you will see it trees and oncoming cars from up the road.

Can't see the EXIF data but I'm pretty amazed that you can see the stars in the photo. Was it a longer exposure shot or are the stars that bright over there?

15 second exposure mate, but yes, we do have good dark skies - even with the city light pollution. I've seen a lot worse, like Sydney.....
