Hi,
Depend on what you buy, you don't need to have S$3.5K to own a good set of equipment...
You can own quite a good set of equipments in less than S$1700...
Remember, plan carefully before you buy and you can save a lots of $$$ . Buy what you need not what want !!!!
Have a nice day....

Hi Leslie
Any good pair of binoculars should be able to focus at infinity and allow you to see the stars sharply (as opposed to some cheap binoculars which have fixed focus). Actually, the naked eye can see stars too, just that with binoculars, you will be able to see more stars.
You did not say what about your binoculars did not satisfy you. Were the images out-of-focus or did you see double images?
I see you are also considering a scope purchase. My advice for any newbie is not to rush into a purchase unless you're rich. Do take some time to read about astronomy first, there is a lot of useful info on this group, the internet and in books, you can borrow from the library or buy at Borders.
For basic tutorials on binoculars & other beginner topics, you may want to check my not-updated site at http://urban.tornasunder.com

Hi Cindy..
with naked eyes, i am always looking at them every night and this doesnt interest me anymore.. hehe.. since young, i wish to have a pair of scope to see stars more clearly..
i am not considering buying a binoculars is bcoz.. if i bought a bino now, nextime when i wanna upgrade to a scope.. i feel that the money of the bino is wasted.. so why dont i consider a scope.. this is my view.. but upon buying a scope.. i will decide carefully which to buy before jumping into one so quick.. Thanks for your website and comment, i really appreciate that~

Yup, I understand your thoughts, but just to add my 2 cents :
If you do buy a bino now instead of a scope, think of the money you spend on it is as an investment rather than a 'waste'.
Even for the seasoned amateurs here, they do keep a pair of binos handy for quick peeks and quick scans of the sky (and also for those occasional lazy nights where they would just show up at an observing session without their main scope...just the binos

ya. i know wat u mean, sam.. but.. i know my parents well.. if they just let me buy a bino now.. i dun think they will let me buy a scope since they think a bino would be enough for stargazing as i just need a bino now for the lovely stars out there.. they are really realistic people, dun wan to waste anything.. haizz.. :? i am so troubled now..
anyway.. i have a question.. how do you use a digital camera for a scope to take picture?? snap on the eyepiece or use a cable to connect to the scope and take picture?? :?
