Hi bern,

the tried-and-tested methods before the age of GOTO is the simply star-hopping method. Find a nearby bright star and work your way towards the object. For that you need to have a star map or sky atlas with stellar magnitudes down to at least magnitude 8 (that was what I used when I was still using a 50mm scope).

Do bear in mind that not all Deep Sky Objects (DSOs) can be seen in your scope due to the aperture (assuming its not a light bucket) or the poor seeing (weather conditions or just the suck-thumb light pollution).

Hope that helps somewhat.

Hi Mariner,

Thanks for providing me the link.

Will try to understand it and hopefully will let me keep on to this hobby.

Regards,
Bern.
