Mersing Astro Trip: 17-20 August

Post by rcj »

To all,

Game for 3 nights of "Milky" skies??? Yes, the next trip will be a 4D3N. We have thrown in an extra night for your pleasure during the public holiday long weekend. We will depart on Friday (17 August) evening time, whereby you get to familarize with your setups, calibrations, for the first night, and then have the second and third nights full swing with your telescoping endeavors. Expected to reach Singapore on following Monday later in the afternoon (potential heavy traffic) however. Trip fees will encompass most meals, two-way a/c mini-bus transport and a/c chalet accommodation (twin/triple-sharing).

Interested parties please send an email to remuscj at gmail dot com with your full name, equipment (if any, for declaration purposes), and contact number.

Date of Expedition: 17th August 2012 Friday Evening.
Duration of Expedition: 4D3N.
Time of departure: TBD depending on demand and size of group. Evening Time departure.
Trip Fees: SGD$190.

Limited seats!

Clear Skies out!

Any GPS coordinates and light pollution in regards to the observation sites?

Hi Jim,

Yes we will be there at the chalet from Friday to Monday together with about 20 others. If you have your own transport, but require booking of chalet, please let me know (almost immediately) as we are just a few days away. If need meals, also let me know. As of now, the minibus is already full.

Thanks mate, I got the meals covered and we are planning to camp with our car.

I am interested to know your GPS coordinates of your various observation sites that your group is heading?

Any mosquito problems by the way??

Regards,
Jim

Jim,
there is only one place where we are stargazing, and it is within the chalet grounds. There will be mosquitoes as long as the temperature is warm and humid.

Jim,

Half of the Teluk Sari fields are already occupied by the existing chalets that we have always been staying in. The remaining area which is to the left of it can be camped. It will be good to have tents, but being the August season, it can suddenly rain at night and even the tents can be flooded in when it happens. It will be wise to have a "backup" place to stay in unless you do not mind sleeping in the car. We will be just a few metres away from where you will likely be camping, since the chalets are just "next door" but yet offers the creature comforts of the night in case one is tired or restful. We actually have a few of us staying for just one night (without meals) and it is about $40 per person.
