Inspired by Peter Loo - IC434

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Inspired by Peter Loo - IC434

Post by Astrosiao »

Hi Peter/Everyone,

The weather has been really bad lately for AP, but your post inspired me to take the chance and deploy earlier this evening even though there was rain clouds. Turns out the sky cleared up!

IC434 - Horsehead Nebula:
3 x 10 minute
8 x 7.5 minute
Bias only, haven't shot the darks.

Mount: G11
Scope: ES127APO with WO Flattener IV
Filtered with cheapo Celestron UHC/LPR
CCD: Celestron Nightscape cooled to 5 deg C (all i could get it to go down to)
Guided by ST80 and SSAG
Shot in Cantonment Area

During packing up, realise I had not tightened the reducer/flattener properly into the focuser hence there is some uneveness. Good thing the CCD didnt fall out!

Image

If not for your post, I'll be a couch potato at home sulking from the lack of Astro activity.

Cheers.

hey Jeremy..

needs more subs!!

and you have a bit of oblong-ation, am not sure if that's due to your loose camera or a bit of error in guiding. your dim stars aren't points.. so i guess a bit of focus error as well..

not bad though! looking forward to the next installment...

Very good effort!

Not easy considering this is shot at cantonment area.

Wow, nice clear horse head, good details of Alnitak region and stars all round (mine senget), the making of a new sifu, thanks for mentioning my name despite that it is solely your own effort, yet is happy to hear that my half raw shots can be of some positive trigger value.

A great attempt! Nice.
Certainly not easy to shoot in Singapore sky.
